Why do I need a Dodge Ram steering stabilizer bar?
HELL BENT STEEL Dodge Ram Steering Stabilizer Bar Kits are a must-have to keep your steering performing at optimum levels and to protect your investment. The design of the solid-axle Dodge truck's steering gearbox is such that they have the tendency to wear out quickly. A worn out steering gearbox causes the "wander" in steering for which the Dodge Rams are notorious. Especially if you have a new steering box, you will want this bar kit to keep it strong. If you don't stabilize your steering gear box, over time your truck will develop play in the steering; this can be, at best, annoying but potentially dangerous. The Hell Bent Steel steering stabilizer bar kit is complete, easy to install, great looking and the HIGHEST QUALITY stabilizer bar on the market. We also use an industry-leading powder coating that keeps it looking good for years to come. All of our products have an attention-to-detail quality and durability that you do not get from other manufacturers.
What is a Dodge Ram steering stabilizer bar kit and how does it work?
In a stock solid-axle Dodge Ram, as the wheels turn left and right, the sector shaft of the steering box is loaded and unloaded from side to side. This sideways loading will, over time, wear out the internal components of your steering box, causing it to fail. The HBS Dodge Ram Steering Stabilizer Bar Kit adds a mount to the bottom of your steering box, below your steering arm, that slides into a bearing housing that attaches to your truck's frame. This bearing carries the side-acting loads which allows the shaft to move freely, adds strength and dramatically extends the life of the gearbox.
How do I know if I have an original steering box, or if the dealer might have replaced it?
If your truck has had an upgraded box installed by a Dodge dealer, it will have the 1-1/4" main shaft instead of the 7/8" shaft supplied by the factory on 03-08 Dodge 2500/3500 4WD Rams. If this is the case, this kit will not fit your truck. Please call (1.877.731.7911) if you have any questions about proper fitment; we have techs available for guidance.
How difficult is it to install the Hell Bent Steel Dodge Ram Stabilizer Bar Kit?
It is fairly easy to install the Dodge Ram steering stabilizer bar kit in 1-2 hours at most, and many of our customers report installing in 30 minutes or less. The Dodge Ram Stabilizer Bar Kit is complete with instructions and all necessary hardware at OEM Grade 10.9 specification. The HBS Dodge Ram Steering Stabilizer Bar Kit is not intended or designed to be used as a replacement for a worn-out gearbox or other steering components. The stabilizer bar kit will improve handling and extend the life of a properly functioning steering gearbox. If your steering box is worn out, we strongly suggest replacing it, and also installing the stabilizer bar kit to make sure your steering remains safe and your box lasts as long as your truck.
The stabilizer bar kit can be used on any stock Ram truck, most lifted or modified trucks, or in combination with other HBS Dodge Ram suspension products:
- Bearing mounting plate is constructed from heavy-duty 1/4" thick steel
- HBS Dodge Ram Steering Stabilizer Bar is constructed from heavy-wall steel tube. This is superior to fabricated sheet-metal designs that many of our competitors use.
- Hell Bent Steel's sector shaft nut is CNC machined from high-strength steel
- High-grade (Grade 10.9 metric or higher) hardware is included with each kit
- The hardware pack includes instructions and has everything necessary for one complete install
- Simple bolt-on installation for immediate results
